Salute to the Nation is one of my favourit images. I made this image on my way to Leh from Manali in north India.
Accompanied by two of my friends, I was on way to Leh. As we crossed Manali, there was a traffic jam with long queues of vehicles, especially of tourists with most of them bound for Rohtang Pass. As we waited for traffic to move, a truck of Border Roads Organisation carrying labourers tried to go ahead of others, but it too had to stop. The moment I saw a child sitting on trucks top I started taking his photographs, but suddenly his elders made him stand and the child himself posed with a salute.
